9-year-old Boy Hit by Car Sunday Dies

The boy who was critically injured when he was struck by a car riding his bike in Woodmore Sunday evening has died.

Police have identified the boy as 9-year-old Jahbari Jawon Howe of the 12700 block of Libertys Delight Drive.

Prince George’s County police responded to at the 12800 block of Woodmore North Boulevard in Woodmoore at around 7:30 p.m. Sunday for a reported car collision involving a child on a bicycle. When officers arrived on the scene, they found Howe to be suffering from critical injuries.

According to the preliminary police investigation, an Infinity QX 56 was traveling northbound on Woodmore North Boulevard Sunday evening. Howe was riding his bicycle in the opposite direction near the sidewalk. Police believe that, for unknown reasons, Howe abruptly turned into the travel portion of the road where he was hit by the Infinity.

Howe was transported to an area hospital via helicopter. On Tuesday, Howe died from his injuries.

The driver of the Infinity remained on the scene of the accident. At this point, police do not believe that speed or alcohol were factors in the accident and no charges have been filed. The investigation is ongoing.
