UPDATE: Man Dead After Collision with Police Cruiser in Bowie

One person is dead after his car collided with a Prince George's County Police cruiser early Wednesday morning, reports The Washington Post.

Update, 9:30 p.m.:

Police have identified the deceased driver as 32-year-old James Dejay Toliver, of the 10700 block of Castleton Way in Upper Marlboro. The driver of the police cruiser that collided with Toliver's vehicle has been identified as Cpl. Michael Mogavero, 54, a nine year veteran of the police force.

Police said Mogavero was driving sound bound on Route 197, responding priority to a call in Oxon Hill. Toliver's vehicle crossed in front of the cruiser at the intersection of Route 197 and London Lane, and was struck on the driver's side.

Both Mogavero and Toliver were taken to an area hospital where Toliver succumbed to his injuries, according to Dep. Cheif Hector Velez.

Mogavero suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash, Velez said.

The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.

A man is dead following the collision of his vehicle and a Prince George's County Police cruiser in Bowie early Wednesday morning, reports The Washington Post.

The crash occurred at the intersection of London Lane and Route 197 just after 3 a.m. Police told The Post that the officer who was driving the cruiser was on-duty and responding to a call for a car accident when the collision occurred. 

Police are investigating the incident to determine who was at fault. The name of the deceased driver has not been released.
