Bowie Man Found Guilty in Sex Abuse Case

Michael Brochu, 52, was found guilty on several charges related to the molestation of at least four young boys from the Bowie area.

Michael Brochu, 52, of Bowie, was found guilty of a second degree sex offense, sexual abuse of a minor and unnatural and perverted practices in connection with the molestation of at least four local boys, according to a tweet by the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney's office.

Brochu’s trial began on Wednesday. He was facing 58 counts of sexual offenses and child abuse in connection with “abusing and molesting multiple young boys, ages 6-11, from the Bowie area,” according to a statement from the state’s attorney’s office.

Brochu was initially arrested in early August after a first victim came forward. After being released on bond, he was rearrested a few days later when two more victims came forward with allegations of sex abuse. Brochu was once again released on bond, only to be arrested again weeks later when a fourth victim came forward with allegations of abuse.

He was was reportedly molesting boys at a community swimming pool and offering to buy them snacks to keep the children from reporting the abuse, according to the state’s attorney’s office.

The trial concluded on Friday. Jurors were unable to reach a verdict immediately following the case, so deliberations were continued until Monday. The jury returned their verdict after several hours of deliberations.

Brochu’s bond has been revoked. His sentencing is scheduled for August 2.
