How To Handle A Venomous Snake

Local animal control experts recently received training on how to properly handle venomous snakes.

Joe Banashek, a lead researcher for Mojave Desert Rattlesnake Research Group, instructed more than a dozen local animal control officers in proper venomous snake handling technique Thursday in Bowie.

Watch Bowie Animal Control Officer Mike Morreale properly handle and contain a copperhead snake, one if two venomous pit vipers native to Maryland.

IMPORTANT: Experts say that if you encounter what you believe to be a venomous snake, do not attempt to handle the reptile. Take two giant strides back, and if it is in your home or outbuilding, contact animal control. If you suspect that someone has been bitten by a venomous snake, call 911 and seek medical attention immediately.
