On the article Boston Explosions Have Baltimore County Police on Alert

There isn't much protection any officer can offer from a bomb blast. So it really doesn't matter if they are on the streets or at the locations where key infrastructure is located. I'm sure though that if you just stay at home you will be safe. Terrorists aren't goine to target individual homes. I heard conflicting stories about whether these could have been cell phone activated bombs. And whether the cell companies had shut down service in advance of the race or not. There were at least 2 different stories about this. I'd like to know more about this particular aspect of this case. One report had the service shut down in mid-city Boston during the race but another said the phone companies knew nothing about any such shut down request. Very odd. The fact that both bombs went off within seconds of each other makes it seem as though they were detonated remotely somehow. I'm sure there will be more on this later.

ReplyI have to tell anyone who has not seen an outbreak of these in action that it's not just crops that are at stake. These burrow into homes and buildings and do real damage the likes of which you cannot imagine without first hand witness. When in full migration in the fall months these swarm and cover most surfaces in homes and business' with damage to food, merchandise, furnishings, carpeting, painted walls, etc. And there is not getting rid of them with insecticides. Furthermore, once an infestation occurs they can be found for years in boxes stored in attics and basements and closets sometimes filling the boxes and destroyed content. The odor is just one facet of this insidious creation. I can relate a trip to the park one fall day and upon entering an ice cream shop to treat my children found that these had attached the shop and were in the air and in the ice cream. The poor owner was beyond words. And they swarm in a matter of moments without warning causing so much damage before anyone can react. Some think of them as ladybugs. They look a lot like a ladybug. But they are not ladybugs. I hope whoever packed them up and shipped them here is dealt with adaquately enough to curb future problems.

ReplyWas anyone at home during any of these crimes? If so and they were able to have a gun the culprit(s) may not have repeated this same crime at the other locations.

Arrest all hobos and make 'em "sing". We need to get to the bottom of why someone was trying to stay warm on a cold day. How about tearing down the abandoned house? Or at least boarding it up. Would the cost of such an investigation cost more than the building involved? By the way, who owns this abandoned building? Shouldn't they bear some responsibility?

ReplyYou want good government? The oust the crazy sobs that are in and start over en-mass. The arrogance and smug attitude alone are enough to justify the removal of all 'our leaders'. Lining the pockets and doing it openly has become the latest fashion in government. Telling you one thing today and another completely different thing tomorrow won't do any longer. We need another 1776. Through our government we now support things that destroy our lives while things that are good for us are illegal. Do you think the hacks that run things care? Not by a long-shot.

EXACTLY!!!!! Party politics hasn't served the citizens well at all, here or nation-wide. And the other party is just as bad. We need to stop carping and run ourselves for these offices. The notion of the citizen-politician has long since gone by the way-side and has been replaced with the career politician who aims to move up in the ranks throughout a lifetime. Take a look at the US Senators we have or the Governor, etc. Barbara Mikalski started out as a city council-woman back in the 50's when the entire area she served was completely different than today. Yet she continues to be in office and insulated from us. And I'm not trying to single-out Barbara, either. There are may other examples of the same thing here and throughout the nation. And we wonder why these people who govern us have not a clue as to what we need or want. Please wake up before it's too late. Get up off that sofa and get involved. Make a difference.

No. It's okay to place lives in peril if you run a government. The law and common sense only applies to private citizens. You can raise that flag but don't look for it to create any real reaction. In fact you might get fined for having your flag too high or too close to your property line, etc.

Kara, in another county that would be considered foul play. But in Baltimore county it's okay to have suspicious injuries and still not be foul play. There are other places where it's just too much trouble to do a proper investigation and things just get swept under the rug, too. Factors such as budgetary constraints, lazy coroners etc sometimes account for "relaxed" procedures. Unfortunately, we now have to get used to less quality in many phases of daily life due to deficit spending in government. Meanwhile you will still be expected to continue to pay your ever increasing taxes with no questions asked. Until we revamp our government and the way it operates we will all have to get used to less service and substandard conditions.

I used to live on Cornwall. Most of the homes were multi-dwelling apartment type buildings. Usually owner on first floor and basement and 2nd floor apartments rented out. The mechanical systems were not up to date in most (heat, electric, plumbing) and could have contributed to this fire. These were built probably late 40's to early 50's so the age of the systems is always suspect. It would seem that multi-dwelling buildings in the county should be inspected frequently by qualified experts to determine safety.
