Speak Out: Are You Still Without Power?

About 85 percent of Bowie residents were out of power after Friday's storm.

At the height of the power outages caused by Friday's derecho, more than 18,000 Bowie residents, or 85 percent, were left without power. As of Monday night at 7:30 p.m., BGE estimated that number was down to 6,600. Bowie's substations and most of the traffic lights were restored yesterday, and now BGE is working to get all residential power restored. If you are in a small pocket of homes that has not been restored, please check again with BGE to make sure they’re aware that your power is still out. Call 1-877-778-2222. For those still without power, the Bowie Senior Center is serving as a 24-hour cooling center, and Northwestern High School on Adelphi Road in Hyattsville is a pet-friendly shelter. St. Matthews Church is also open to …
