Pollinator of the Day: Bumblebees

Patch shares a daily photo of a pollinator during Maryland Pollinator Week, June 18-24.

Although bumblebees are not normally aggressive, their stingers lack barbs so they can sting more than once and will sting to defend their nest or if they are harmed, according to Wikipedia.

Photo of the Day: A Sure Sign of Summer

Nothing says summer like fresh blueberries.

If this past weekend's sultry weather wasn't enough to convince you, here's a shot taken by Bowie resident Maria Arnold at the Bowie Gardens for Wildlife habitat tour on May 19 of the first blueberry of the season. What are some other signs of summer you noticed in the past few weeks? Tell us in the comments or add a photo to our gallery by clicking the "Upload Photo & Video" link.

Photo of the Day: A Minty Drink

Humans aren't the only creatures that enjoy a refreshing drink on a spring day.

This beautiful swallowtail butterfly was photographed in the Arnold Wildlife Habitat, located in the Bowie backyard of Maria Arnold and her family, feeding on the nectar of a mountain mint plant. Photo of the Day: Symmetry

Seeing things a little differently.

I took this photo behind one of the buildings in Free State Mall one day when I was walking my dog with a friend. I've probably walked by this, and plenty of other similar looking structures thousands of times. For some reason, I was drawn to the way the five yellow cement posts were placed when juxtaposed with the metering equipment behind it. Have some abstract photography from around Bowie? Share your photos here!
