Wedding Ceremonies, Rally Mark New Same-Sex Marriage Law in Maryland

Silver Spring women among first to marry.

  The long-awaited enactment of Maryland’s Civil Marriage Protection Act on Jan. 1 saw a number of same-sex marriages across the state, including the union between two Silver Spring women. The wedding of Ruth Siegel and Nina Nethery was one of a number of same-sex ceremonies profiled in a recent Washington Post story about New Year’s Day weddings. The couple’s ceremony began virtually as soon as the law took effect, at 12:02 a.m., with each participant wearing a baseball cap that read either Bride One or Bride Two. Westboro Baptist Church Member Says Group Will Picket Sandy Hook Elementary

The group also picketed a Prince George's County High School last year, calling it "pervert-run."

A member of Westboro Baptist Church, the group that picketed Northwestern High School in Prince George's County last year is headed for Sandy Hook Elementary School. Westboro Baptist is known for picketing funerals of soldiers and AIDS victims and now says it plans to picket Sandy Hook Elementary School, according to Examiner.com. A day after Friday's shooting in Newtown, CT, where police said 20-year-old Adam Lanza killed his mother and then 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary, Westboro Baptist member Shirley Phelps-Roper posted a message on Twitter that the group would "sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgment." What the World Needs Now, is Love, Sweet Love

Trying to oppose hate with love in the face of the Westboro Baptist Church in yet another Maryland protest.

Westboro Baptist “Church”.  They’re at it again.  They have once again graced our state with their presence, this time protesting outside of Fort Meade Middle/High School.  If you want to know their stated reasons for the protest, just have a look at their lovely press release here.     Of course it doesn’t really matter what they say their reason is.  One glance through their hate filled website shows that they are equal opportunity haters.  They hate the Catholics, they hate the Jews, they hate the homosexuals, they hate the soldiers, they hate teens who randomly get killed in drunk driving accidents, they hate 9-year-old girls who get shot in the head in supermarket parking lots.  Through Facebook, someone in my network posted an event …
