Should Redskins Fans Back the Ravens in the Super Bowl?

At least one Washington Post writer thinks so.

As the Ravens prepare to face the 49ers in Sunday's Super Bowl—and with the Redskins having long since begun their own off-season—Washington fans are once again faced with a conundrum: should they back Baltimore? It's a question many Washingtonians confronted in recent seasons as the Ravens racked up four playoff appearances to the Redskins' none. But with the arrival of rookie sensation Robert Griffin III and the team's first signs of postseason life since 2007, has the calculus changed? For one Washington Post writer, the answer is still simple: Hail to the Ravens.  Craig Timberg, an admitted Baltimore fan, says it's a no-brainer given the Ravens' many parallels to the Lombardi-winning Redskins clubs of yore: a stout defense, a great …

SPEAK OUT: Should Shanahan Have Pulled RGIII?

Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III's knee gave way in Sunday's playoff game, raising questions about the decision to keep him in.

It's the talk of the Washington water cooler this morning: should RGIII have stayed in? For those who missed Sunday's wild card matchup at FedEx Field between the Washington Redskins and the Seattle Seahawks, suffice it to say that it was not a happy affair for the Burgundy and Gold. After building up a 14-0 lead against the red hot Seahawks, Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III appeared to aggravate a lingering right knee injury incurred against the Baltimore Ravens on Dec. 9. Though the signal-caller showed signs of pain and limited mobility, Griffin reportedly told Coach Mike Shanahan he was still up to the task. Shanahan evidently agreed, keeping his starter in the game even as a total lack of production by the 'Skins offense helped…

Yes, Coach S should have pulled RGIII at half-time. Cousins already proved he coulds step in and win games. That would have been their best chance to win.   more ›

SHOUT OUT: Where Will You Be Watching the Redskins vs. Cowboys Game Sunday Night?

Traditional NFL rivalry heightened by playoff implications.

Late Sunday night, either the Washington Redskins or Dallas Cowboys will be crowned champions of the NFC East and earn a home playoff game in January. In the DC Metro area, the buzz is deafening, but there is significant national interest in the game as well. An ESPN.com poll asking, "Which team are you rooting for in the Cowboys-Redskins game in Week 17 that will decide the NFC East title?" has garnered more than 214,000 votes. Seventy-three percent (representing 49 states) said they are rooting for the Redskins, while 27 percent, representing a lone (star) state are pulling for the Cowboys. FedEx Field promises to be electric. If you are lucky enough to have your tickets already, the parking lots are opening earlier than usual (3:30 p.m…

Settling the Bet: Howard County Exec Picks Up Trash in Redskins Garb

Ken Ulman dropped by Landover Wednesday to satisfy a bet with his Prince George's County equal.

Howard County Executive Ken Ulman dropped by Landover on Wednesday to pick up roadside trash in a Redskins jersey, fulfilling the terms of a wager with Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker. The two top officials had placed a friendly bet on Sunday's matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and the Washington Redskins. Ulman, a diehard Ravens fan, lost out when Baltimore fell to the 'Skins 31-28 in overtime. Baker, ever the gracious victor, invited Ulman earlier this week to meet him at the Prince George's County Sports & Learning Complex in the shadow of FedEx Field. Though Ulman arrived sporting purple, he soon found himself clad in the burgundy-and-gold jersey of rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III. After some friendly trash talk…

Howard County Exec to Make Good on Redskins-Ravens Bet

After losing to a wager Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker, Ken Ulman says he'll be picking up trash on Baker's home turf.

Howard County Executive Ken Ulman says he'll make good on a bet with County Executive Rushern Baker this week, meaning the dyed-in-the-wool Ravens fan will be picking up trash in Prince George's County while singing "Hail to the Redskins" and wearing a Washington jersey. "I'm having a tough, tough day. As you know the Ravens lost, and I lost my bet to [Baker]," Ulman said in a YouTube video released on Monday. Last week, Ulman challenged Baker to a bet that the Baltimore Ravens would beat Baker's Redskins. On Sunday, the Redskins pulled off a 31-28 dramatic come-from-behind win in overtime. In his video, Ulman asked anyone willing to lend him a Redskins jersey to tweet a picture of it to @KenUlman.

Ulman, Baker Agree to Redskins-Ravens Bet

The two county executives have a lot riding on Sunday's game.

Ladies and gentlemen of the Baltimore-Washington corridor: it is on. That's the message out from Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker and Howard County Executive Ken Ulman ahead of Sunday's Ravens-Redskins matchup at FedEx Field. The two sparred on Fox 5 Thursday night, agreeing to a friendly wager over the game. Ulman, a proud Ravens fan, had thrown down the gauntlet earlier by offering to wear the jersey of Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III if Washington wins.  But if the Ravens win, Ulman proposed that Baker would have to wear a Haloti Ngata jersey and make it a "purple friday" next week in Prince George's County. Baker upped the ante even more during their on-air interview, suggesting that Ulman would have to pick up …

POLLS: How Will the Redskins Fare This Season?

Training camp for Robert Griffin III and the Washington Redskins opened Thursday in Ashburn, VA.

The Washington Redskins opened arguably the most anticipated training camp in the Dan Snyder era Thursday with fans awash in excitement for the official debut of new franchise quarterback Robert Griffin III.  As The Washington Post's Jason Reid put it: Forget about the [Redskins’] past two disappointing seasons under Coach Mike Shanahan. Never utter John Beck’s name again. The Redskins got a sorely needed fresh start when they drafted rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III, and this season his development is all that matters. As important as Griffin's development may be, fans still want to see the team win, and do so sooner than later. Is the No. 2 overall draft pick's presence enough to help the team improve on its 5-11 record from a …
