Roosevelt Girls Soccer Team Bested by Bowie in Regional Championship

The Raiders' season ended at the hands of Bowie on Tuesday.

The Bowie High School girls soccer team defeated Eleanor Roosevelt High School, 1-0, on Tuesday night thanks to sophomore Alison Ryan's second-half goal. Bulldog coach Aaron Hankey consistently yelled throughout the game to "win [the ball] in the air," and "Challenge! Challeng!" And his players did just that. Roosevelt put up a tough fight, but Bowie dominated the play, winning 50-50 balls and keeping the Raider defense on their toes.  Bowie took control of the ball right from the starting whistle and they didn't let up all game. In less than five minutes of play they had several close shots including a long ball hammered off the crossbar by sophomore midfielder Nicole Hill. Roosevelt Holds Off Bowie to Improve to 6-1

The Raiders won 13-8 on Saturday.

Everyone in the stadium knew where the ball was headed, and Eleanor Roosevelt High School safety Jairus Cook got there first. Cook intercepted a pass intended for Bowie star receiver Jeremiah Hendy – a University of Maryland commitment – with 3:13 remaining to help the Raiders hold on for a 13-6 win over the Bulldogs on Saturday. "I told my corner, Donta Williams, that I had his back," Cook said, "'because he was checking Jeremiah Hendy, and of course he's a great player. So he put a good move on him, and I told him I had his back, so I just stepped in there and just waited for the ball to come to me. The interception was the second of the day for Cook, who now has four in the last two games. The Raiders (6-1) also recovered two fumbles …
