Although the store is still filled with merchandise, make no mistake--Bed Bath & Beyond in Bowie is closed for business. Patch learned last spring that the store was relocating about three miles north with no plans to open another store in Bowie. Workers will be packing up the remaining merchandise over the next several days and sending the goods over to the new store. The local board shop becomes the latest shop to close inside the Village at Waugh Chapel, but it will be reopening at a new location in August.
After 10 years at the Village at Waugh Chapel, Owens Ski & Sport will close their doors at the end of July, but the store will reopen with a new owner about a half mile away in mid-August. Owens sells ski, snowboard, skateboard, wakeboard and waterski supplies, and the Gambrills store is one of two locations owned by Jim Owens. “We’re continuing to mark things down this month as we go along, but it’s not a total desperation situation,” said Owens, referring to the store's merchandise. Bowie shoppers looking for Egyptian cotton sheets or the latest in kitchen gadgetry are going to have to head a few miles north to get their fix starting this fall. Bed Bath & Beyond, currently located in the Bowie Town Center, is relocating to a new building in the Village South at Waugh Chapel Towne Center in Crofton in a few months.
