Students and social media are reporting that Jesse Wasmer, a Perry Hall High School guidance counselor, intervened after a 15-year-old student reportedly shot another student in the school's cafeteria Monday morning. "I turned around and the kid's got a gun, and Mr. Wasmer, one of the counselors, pushes him up against a vending machine and then he shot one more off," Ryan Brady, a student who witnessed the shooting, told Patch. Wasmer declined to comment when contacted by Patch. A Facebook page has been created to thank Wasmer. At 4:30 p.m. Monday it had nearly 950 fans. Prince George's County school officials discussed school safety after hearing about a school shooting 55 miles north in Perry Hall.
It's only the second week of school in Prince George's County, but officials are making school safety a priority in light of a school shooting that occurred outside of Baltimore Monday morning. According to Perry Hall Patch, officials say a 15-year-old student shot a 17-year-old student in the back at Perry Hall High School on the first day of school.
