Speak Out: Will You Boycott Applebee's and Papa John's?

The franchise owners of some popular chains are making big changes to offset costs of Obamacare, but it's causing some customers to rethink which businesses they'll support.

Several franchise owners of popular restaurant chains say that the Affordable Care Act or Obamacare will increase costs for small business owners—and in order to offset costs they are adding surcharges to bills, threatening layoffs and more. Apple-Metro CEO Zane Tankel, who owns more than 40 Applebee's chains in the metro New York area, slammed Obamacare on Fox Business Network, Huffington Post reported, stating he would not hire any more employees and may cut the hours of current employees.  According to the Huffington Post, John Metz, a Florida-based Denny's franchise owner, is adding a 5 percent surcharge to customers' bills to offset costs for healthcare. I work for one of these companies... Not one that is doing this right now, but let me tell you... I can understand where these smaller business are coming from. This is huge to our franchises. Some of these companies don't have the money to support this. We are going to have to cut hours, and hire more people. Bowie Police Make Arrests in Six Armed Robberies

More arrests are pending, says Bowie Police Chief.

Four juveniles were arrested in connection with six robberies in South Bowie since December, Bowie Police said. Some of the juveniles will be charged as adults in the cases. Police have not released the names of any suspects as the investigation is ongoing. The first of the four suspects was arrested last week. More arrests are pending, according to Acting Chief John Nesky. “We are trying to tie all the pieces together,” Nesky said. Nesky said the four individuals arrested are known to each other, but he would not label them a group. Investigators are trying to determine the roles the suspects may have played in each of the robberies. “Different people did different things,” Nesky said.
