After beginning his college career at UNC-Wilmington, sophomore guard helps Niagara get a rare road victory in front of family in Baltimore.
There was a lot of noise, and shouts, coming from the visiting locker room in the basement of the Reitz Arena at Loyola University in north Baltimore late Friday night. That was because the men's basketball team at Niagara University, which includes Kevon Moore of Bowie, won just its sixth game of the season (and second on the road) against the host Greyhounds. And Niagara, from upstate New York, did it in dramatic fashion as the Purple Eagles erased a 13-point deficit early in the second half to win, 59-57, on a shot by senior Anthony Nelson with about 15 seconds left. "We needed a win, first and foremost," said Moore, standing outside of the Niagara dressing room. "It was sweeter for me since it was a school that recruited me (after he …

Over 20 local vendors came out to support the Bowie Historic Society, including K & K Creations, Traci Lynn Fashion Jewelry Boutique and even our local State Farm Insurance office. There was …

The proprietors of Simple Pleasures Ice Café take the name of their business to heart. The creamery and café, which has been open in Bowie for 10 years, specializes in homemade ice cream flavors designed with local and in-season ingredients in mind. The owners, Rodney and Terri Russell, work in conjunction with local farms that supply the produce they use to craft ice cream flavors like black raspberry, blueberry cobbler and fresh strawberry. Originally established in the Bowie Plaza shopping center off Route 197 in October 2000, the Russells aim to provide their customers with a comfortable, delicious dessert experience. After military assignments sent the couple and their two daughters, Brittany and Rajah, overseas, the family decided to…

Yummmmy, that is the only word that comes to mind when I think of the wonderful ice desserts from Simple Pleasures. I have been a customer since their inception (2000) and was so happy when I found them after they moved from the Rt. 197 location to Old Town Bowie. The location they now house is a treat within itself if you are interested in the old and antiques. I love the laid-back environment …   more ›

Correction to the above comment. It was actually September of 1965 that B.H.S. first opened its doors under the principalship of Thomas Worthen. There was no graduating class that year, as there were only sophomores and juniors. The first class to graduate was 67 and the first class attending all 3 years to graduate was the class of 68.   more ›
