2013 Oscar Nominations Have Definite DC Flavor

Nation's Capital features prominently in three Best Picture nominees.

Three Academy Award nominees for Best Picture prominently feature Washington, DC: Argo, Zero Dark Thirty and, of course, Lincoln. While serving as a location for major films is nothing new to Washington, DC, I can't think of another year in which so many DC-centric movies have been nominated. The Washington Post described each movie as "an engrossing, superbly crafted story that plunges viewers into otherwise opaque and unknowable worlds made distant by time, secrecy or both" and believe film attendees will be pleased that the films "enthusiastically celebrate institutions more often mired in dysfunction and public malodor." SPEAK OUT: Opening Night of 'The Dark Knight Rises'

The newest Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises, premieres Thursday at midnight across the country, and it seems fans are eagerly anticipating its arrival.  The Regal Majestic Cinema 20 and IMAX theater in Silver Spring is already sold out for their IMAX show at midnight on Thursday, July 19, according to Melvina Braganza, an employee with the theater. She said the theater decided to open a 3:20 a.m. showing in IMAX for opening night due to the popularity of the film, and so far, 65 seats to that showing have been sold. If you don’t find the idea of an $18.50 IMAX ticket appealing, you’re not the only one. Braganza said the Silver Spring theater’s regular, non-IMAX midnight showing on Thursday sold out, so the theater opened three more …

I saw The Dark Knight on opening night and got good seats an hour before, sadly I think the hype is too big for this and people will show up no later than 10 p.m. to get in line for seats. I'm eagerly awaiting, but I'll see it Saturday or Sunday morning.   more ›
