Area University to Offer 'Fifty Shades of Grey' Class in 2013

Undergraduate offering to be part of American Studies program at American University.

  Fifty Shades of Grey, E.L. James' best selling trilogy, can be found on countless Kindles, Nooks and nightstands across the nation, and starting this spring, in American University's (AU) classrooms as well, states a story in the Eagle, AU's newspaper. The American Studies program in the College of Arts and Sciences at the university, located just across the Maryland boundary in Washington, will offer the undergraduate course. The course description promises to explore the "interplay of sexuality, health, public relations and marketing," describing the topics to be studied as including "feminism, addiction, social media marketing and sexual expression versus sexual repression." Gasp! Whips and chains! Oh no! So barbaric (this is continuing from our enlightened posts on another Patch piece about banning spanking). We must ban whips and chains! And ban 50 Shades! In all seriousness though - I agree with you: pretty dumb idea for a class, regardless of who it's trying to appeal to. Winter Break Ideas for Kids in Prince George’s County

Department of Parks & Recreation offers half and full-day programs.

Aside from summer break, winter break may be the most highly anticipated event for kids during the school year, but for many parents, it is also one of the most stressful. Finding care for children can be challenging, even for those with family in the area. In Prince George’s County, the Department of Parks & Recreation is offering a number of different programs. Cheerleading Camp From 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Dec. 26-28, kids aged 5-17 can learn cheer routines and moves at the Glenarden Community Center. Cost:  $75 for Prince George’s County residents; $90 for non-residents. Step Dancing Camp Children aged 5-17 will enjoy this full day (9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) camp where they will learn step moves and skills from Dec. 26-28 at the Glenarden …
