Get Out: A Bake Sale, Bowiefest 2012, and More

A few events in Bowie and Upper Marlboro you might want to check out this weekend.

The Goodloe Memorial Unitarian Universalist Congregation is holding a multi-family flea market and bake sale on Saturday, June 2, from 7:30 a.m. to noon. The event is being held at the church on 1540 Pointer Ridge Place and there is no admission charge. If you’re in Bowie this weekend, check out Bowiefest 2012, the town’s long standing festival featuring local businesses, food vendors, charities, and more. The event is being held at Blades of Bowie and Allen Pond from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 2. Admission to the event is free. Bowie Reads Seeks Donations

Gently used and new books will be given out for free to children at the 2012 Bowiefest.

The City of Bowie is asking residents with new or gently used children's books to donate them so they can be given away to local kids for free next month. In partnership with the Tulip Grove Elementary School PTA, the city’s Education Committee is collecting gently used and new books that will be given away for free to children who visit the Bowie Reads booth during the 2012 Bowiefest, being held on June 2 from 11 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Ice Arena. Those interested in donating can drop books off in the front lobby of Tulip Grove Elementary between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. My family had a great time at Bowiefest this year. Everything appeared to be very well organized and my kids were very excited about their free books from the Bowie Reads tent. They've been reading them everynight before bed. It's a fun, little festival that we look forward to every year.   more ›
