Families Seek Community's Help in Providing 'Ultimate Gift'

Jason and Shelly Yost from Bowie, along with two other families, are asking the community to help them adopt children this holiday season.

  While some families gear up to find the “ultimate present” this holiday season, three local families are looking to give a child perhaps the greatest gift of all—a family. Jen and Don Esch, formerly of the Edgewater/Davidsonville area but now living in Bethany Beach, are looking to adopt four brothers and sisters from two separate orphanages. However, the Esch family needs help making their dream come true. To benefit the Esch family with two others—Rob and Elaine Levit from Annapolis and Jason and Shelly Yost from Bowie—Centerpoint Church in Annapolis is hosting a fundraiser to help finance the adoption efforts called Love Gives. Young Woman with Rare Blood Deficiency Won't Let Condition Deter Her from Adopting a Baby

Crystal Barr seeking community help to overcome high adoption costs; fundraiser Saturday night.

As a girl, Bowie native Crystal Barr, 28, played soccer and softball and knew she wanted to be a mom. But Crystal also knew she had an extremely rare, potentially dangerous blood condition, which also meant that when she grew up and if she were to try and have child, she could die. Instead, Barr, now of Crofton, and her husband, Robert Stork, want to adopt a baby. After six years of marriage, she said it’s time. “We have so much love to give a child, we’re ready,” said Barr. She is an assistant property manager, and her husband works for a bottled water company.  Barr said they have the financial resources to raise a baby and “provide a truly nurturing home.” But adopting a baby through a licensed adoption agency can cost up to $40,000 up …
