Lindsa MacDonald

A memorial service will be held at Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Annapolis on Saturday, October 22 at 2 pm.

Lindsa Kay Johnson MacDonald, 62, died January 26 after battling colorectal cancer for more than four years. She is survived by her husband of 36 years Chuck MacDonald, of Bowie, MD; her children Mark MacDonald of St. Charles, MO, Tracy MacDonald of Bowie, MD, Christy MacDonald of Arlington, VA, and her granddaughter Maggie Rose MacDonald of St. Charles, MO. Mrs. MacDonald's  parents Bill and Virginia Johnson of New Martinsville, WV preceded her in death about 10 years ago. Mrs. MacDonald was born July 6, 1949 in Morgantown, WV and graduated from high school in New Martinsville, WV. She decided to go back to college while she had three small children at home, graduating from California State University in San Bernardino in 1992 with a …

William Donald Schaefer Leaves 'Do It Now' Legacy on Maryland Politics

The former governor, Baltimore mayor and state comptroller who died on Monday will lie in state at the State House in Annapolis and in the rotunda of Baltimore City Hall.

UPDATE (10:10 a.m.)—William Donald Schaefer—Baltimore's legendary former mayor, Maryland governor and state comptroller—died Monday at around 6:30 p.m. in his bed at the Charlestown retirement community in Catonsville, according to his longtime friend Lainy M. LeBow-Sachs. "I was with him holding his hand," LeBow-Sachs told Patch. "He couldn't speak." Schaefer, 89, was released from the hospital earlier this month after a five-day stay for pneumonia and returned to Charlestown, where Maryland's 58th governor has lived for three years. Friends, Family to Raise Funds in Honor of Late Hockey Coach

Three fundraisers are planned this month to memorialize Brian St. Louis and help his young family.

Brian St. Louis was under a year old the first time he donned a pair of skates and hit the ice. He learned to play ice hockey from his dad, the late Ken St. Louis of Centreville, MD., a popular local coach. As a kid, Brian St. Louis played for the Bowie Bruins, South River High School and Washington Junior Capitals ice hockey programs and took the AJHL championship.  Nicknamed "Saint" by family, friends and teammates, Brian St. Louis worked his way up to become head coach for the Junior Capitals and Nationals. He later took a job as hockey director and coach at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, VA. where an unexpected tragedy ended his life. On Sept. 23, 2010, Brian St. Louis, 27, collapsed in his office and died of an apparent …

Celebrating the Life of William 'Bill' Olden, Life Member with the Bowie Volunteer Fire Department

A group of family members, friends and fellow firefighters gathered to remember Bill Olden, who passed away in February.

"I think dad would be very proud. Very proud," said Bill Olden Jr. of the turnout Saturday afternoon as he shared a few words about his father in front of a group of family, friends and fellow firefighters at the hall in the Glenn Dale Fire Department. Bill Olden joined the Bowie Volunteer Fire Department in 1968, serving for many years as a firefighter and EMT. He was the department treasurer 1985-86, vice president of Company 39 1990-91 and assistant treasurer 1995-96. He also was in the historic preservation committee and chaired the fundraising committee for many years. In 1988, Olden was voted to the level of Life Member, which is given to those who have served at least 15 years in the department. Friends and family spoke about their …

Barbara Swain Lancaster, 86, of 1597 State Line Road, Waynesboro, PA, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, at her home surrounded by her family. Born Sunday, April 6, 1924, in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of the late H. Wainwright Swain and Dorothy Quimby Swain. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Franklin J. Lancaster; daughter, Nanette L. Lash; sister, Nancy S. Paschall; and brother, Howard Swain. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and will always be remembered as a loving wife and mother. Remembering "Big Mike" After His Sudden Death

Michael Casey's life ended abruptly after an accident Saturday on Race Track Road.

A memorial has been erected near the location where Michael Neil Casey, 25, of Bowie lost control of his SUV and struck a tree on Race Track Road early Saturday morning.  A cross, covered with condolences and messages to Casey, along with flowers and even a Christmas tree, can be seen on the side of Race Track Road. Prince George's County Police received a call at 2:10 a.m. on Dec. 18 to the 7000 block of Race Track Road to respond to the incident where Casey's 2005 Dodge SRT had struck a tree after he lost control. Neil, also known as "Big Mike" was transported to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Bowie Man Passes On Due to Extremely Rare, Aggressive Prostate Cancer

After battling a rare condition for eleven months, James Muckelvene, 58, passed away on Monday. Services to be held next week.

James Muckelvene, a Bowie man who spent the last eleven months battling an extremely rare and aggressive form of prostate cancer, has died. He was 58. The 20-year Army veteran died Monday surrounded by his wife, Pearl, grown daughters Jamecia, Jatawny and Janique, and eight grandchildren. Muckelvene had sarcomatoid carcinoma of the prostate. In just months, the cancer spread from his prostate to his bones and muscle, unlike most types of prostate cancer which can take years, or even decades, to develop. There have been 100 reported cases of this type of prostate cancer, according to a 2010 medical report.
