I am really concerned about the number of businesses that are leaving Bowie Town Center for the new center in Crofton or just closing out. It is sad to see vacant store fronts and then even worse, see them replaced with low-budget retail stores. I don't want to sound biases or "snooty" but history shows that when the urban clothing, $1/$5 dollar stores come the entire center starts to suffer. Truly, those types of stores do not draw adults who want a caliber or specialty type of clothings, shoes, etc. When middle class starts to go to other counties or malls for nice things the centers usually get a rowdy crowd, baggy pant and sassy mouth teens that loiter and hang around and do not shop or spend money in the stores that are the flagships. Next thing you know the Center will be run down and run over. I love it now, but fear it will go the way of the Cap Center in Largo. It is a mess and I do not frequent there because the stores are not the types where I shop and the crowd is not the friendliest in town. What can the community do to solicit higher caliber stores and hang on to the ones we love in the Bowie Town Center. I think this is a good subject to ask of the BTC Management....What is really going on with all the closings and what do they plan to do about it? Thanks and no offense...to anyone who likes the dollar stores ( I do too, but in moderation)!
