Fresh Fare, First Days, Fall Sports

Five things you need to know this week in Bowie.

1.) AROUND TOWN » Today is the first day of classes for Prince George's County Public Schools (all the parents cheer!) Here are some tips to keep Bowie's youngest pedestrians safe as they hit the streets and head back to class.

2.) YOU SAID IT » Ananke The fact that children are born to single parents is irrelevant. There are millions of divorced couples that have children that are raised by one parent. Single parents are overwhelmed with the responsibilities usually shared by two parents, economic, psychological and ethical. Many single parents do the right thing, being both mother and father and working multiple jobs for low wages because our collegiate education system is financially out of their reach. Criticizing is easy, thinking of a way to contribute and pay it forward it hard, but it is the right thing to do. Think about it, contribute, stop criticizingIn defense of single parents.

3.) WEATHER » The week starts rainy and warm. There’s a 40 percent chance of storms and showers all day and highs will hover in the low-80s. Skies will be cloudy in the evening and temperatures will drop to the high-60s. Prepare for the week ahead with the Accuweather forecast.
