The MARC Penn Line service is also affected.

Damage to overhead wires ledAmtrak officials to suspend rail service on its lines between Washington and Philadelphia Wednesday.

In a statement, rail carrier officials said engineers were assessing and repairing the "extensive" damage to the wires. The release did not specify how long the shutdown could last.

Amtrak passengers with booked tickets who opt not to travel can receive a refund or voucher, officials said. Some online bookings can be modified or canceled, according to the release.

Maryland Transit Administration officials announced that the MARC Penn Line service, which uses Amtrak's tracks between Baltimore and Washington and operates some trains as far north as Perryville, will be running as usual to Baltimore. However, one train bound for Perryville will turn around at Martin State Airport due to the electrical issues.
