Weekend Weather: Keep the Umbrellas Handy

Chance of rain lingers all weekend, both here and at the beaches.

Looks like it will be hard to escape the chance of rain this weekend anywhere in the area, from DC and Maryland to the Delmarva beaches, according to the National Weather Service. On the bright side, we'll get a welcome break from the extreme heat of early August.

Here in the Montgomery and Prince George's counties, clouds are already rolling in, with showers and thunderstorms expected to follow later this evening around 9 p.m. A few showers and storms will continue overnight, and lows will fall into the 70s.

On Saturday the chance of local showers continues, but at least with more comfortable temps: highs will be in the lower 80s, with lows in the upper 60s.

Sunday may be the weekend's best pick, with mostly clear skies and only a small (20 percent) chance of afternoon showers. Rain chances increase after 9 p.m., with lows in the mid-60s.

If you're planning to head to the beaches, the sunshine could well be in liquid form there, too. Saturday looks to be a (mostly) rainy day, from Rehoboth to Ocean City, with a 60 percent chance of rain at both locations. Highs will be in the 80s.

But if you're hoping to get in a little rain-free beach time before the weekend's out, a better bet looks to be Rehoboth Beach on Sunday, when rain's not is not in the forecast, verses a slightly higher (20 percent) chance of showers and storms in  Ocean City. Highs will remain in the 80s, with light west-northwest winds.

In between here and there, the outlook for Annapolis is close to the same: Showers will roll in tonight, with thunderstorms possible after 11:00 pm. Lows will be in the 70s.

Showers and thunderstorms continue through a mostly-cloudy Saturday, with a high near 80 and north winds around 11 mph.  Skies will clear somewhat in the evening, with temps falling into the (comfortable) upper 60s. A small chance of showers will remain on Sunday, increasing later in the day and evening.

Rain or shine, enjoy these last weekends of summer!
