Spend The Summer On Ice

The Bowie Ice Arena offers a variety of skating camps beginning in July.

There are lots of options to beat the heat on these unbearably warm summer days—trips to one of the many local pools, shopping in the air-conditioned stores and Bowie Town Center, or catching the latest summer blockbuster in a chilly, dark movie theater.

Or, residents can bundle up in their mittens and scarves and really cool things down at the , where the temperature is typically a cool 55 degrees.

Starting July 7, the arena will offer summer skating camps, group skating lessons, and open skating sessions all summer long, said Skating Director Christine Brinton.

The rate to skate is $5 for adults and $4.50 for kids under 16, and an additional $3 skate rental fee.

A summer camp for ages 6-13 will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 23-27 and Aug. 13-17. Cost is $200 for one week or $390 for two weeks. Before and after care are available for an additional fee of $30 per week.

The Ice Arena also is offering a Learn to Play Hockey Camp for ages 9-12 from 2-5 p.m. July 9-13 for $130.

Additionally, a half day camp for ages 3 to 6, a freestyle skate camp, and a hockey skills development camp are also being offered. Check the Ice Arena brochure online here, or call 301-262-6200 for more details, including camp pricing and open skate times.
