Get Out Bowie: Skateboading Competition, Free Concerts and More in Events this Weekend

Looking for some exciting things to do this weekend? Check out some of the fun things going on around town.

Each week, Patch puts together a list of local activities and events going on in your area this weekend. Check back weekly and tell us in the comments if you know of any additional activities coming up.

Old Town Bowie Saturday Concert

  • Description: This week, acoustic folk music by ilyAIMY.
  • Cost: Free

June Jam at Bowie Skate Park

  • Where:
  • When: Sunday, June 16, 9 a.m.
  • Description: The competition will offer three skill level divisions that will compete for the top spots in a "jam format" competition.  Registration will be on-site at the Bowie Skate Park on June 16 and will be staggered throughout the day by skill level (Beginner 8am-9am; Intermediate 10am-11am; Advanced 12pm-1pm). 
  • Cost: $10

Sunday Sunset Concert

  • Where: Allen Pond Park
  • When: Sunday, June 16, 7 p.m.
  • Description: Celebrate Flag Day with the Baywing Band.
  • Cost: Free

Father's Day Tours of Riversdale

  • Where: Riversdale House Museum, Riverdale Park
  • When: Sunday, June 16, 12:15 p.m.
  • Description: Bring your father, father-in-law, grandfather, or other special gentleman for a free guided tour of the house.
  • Cost: One free tour with each $3 paid admission

Free Father's Day Tour

  • Where: Darnall's Chance Museum, 14800 Governor Oden Bowie Dr, Upper Marlboro 
  • When:  Sunday, June 16, 12 p.m.
  • Description:  Complimentary tours of the museum for fathers and grandfathers when accompanied by a paying child or grandchild.
  • Cost:  Free

Beer, Bourbon and BBQ Festival

  • Where: 137 National Plaza, National Harbor
  • When:  Friday, June 14 to Saturday, June 15
  • Description:  Lots of beer, bourbon and BBQ. This year is sure to please with even more of what everyone loves.

UniverSoul Circus

  • Where:  201 Harborview Ave., National Harbor
  • When:  Thursday, June 13 to Sunday, June 16
  • Description:  For the first time at National Harbor, celebrate the tradition of the UniverSoul Circus, featuring live animals, stunts and much more.

Local Bounty Farmers' Market

  • Where:  14300 St. Thomas Church Road, Upper Marlboro
  • When:  Saturday, June 15, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Description:  St. Thomas' hosts the farmers' market as a community service. Folks from the neighborhood stop by each week to meet, speak with the vendors, and buy fresh, local food.
  • Cost: Free

Juneteenth Celebration

  • Where:  301 Watkins Park Dr, Rt 193 and 214, Upper Marlboro
  • When:  Saturday, June 15
  • Description:  Family observance celebrating African-American Emancipation Day. Festivities include music, children's events, educational exhibits, speakers and genealogical workshops. 
  • Cost: Free

Flea Market/Bake Sale

  • Where:  8400 Mission Rd, Jessup
  • When:  Saturday, June 15, 8 a.m.   
  • Description:  Antiques, jewelry, clothing, baby items, toys, furniture, books, etc.
  • Cost: Free

Marvelous Mobiles

  • Where:  College Park Community Center, 5051 Pierce Ave, College Park
  • When:  Saturday, June 15, 10 a.m.
  • Description:  Bring the kids in to make a fun art project with local arts guru Aaron Springer.  This month features Marvelous Mobiles.
  • Cost:  Free

Tie-Dye Workshop

  • Where:  College Park Aviation Museum, 1985 Corporal Frank Scott Dr, College Park
  • When:  Saturday, June 15, 1 p.m.
  • Description:  Participants are invited to get in touch with your creative side and make your own tie-dye t-shirt. Pre-registration is required. Call 301-864-6029.
  • Cost: $7

Downtown College Park Farmers Market

  • Where:  College Park City Hall, 4500 Knox Rd, College Park
  • When:  Sunday, June 16, 10 a.m.
  • Description:  Local farmers market with chef demos, numerous vendors, and educational booths.
  • Cost:  Free
