Excessive Heat Watch Issued for Friday

Residents should avoid spending time in the sun and stay indoors in air-conditioning when possible.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an Excessive Heat Watch for Prince George’s County effective from tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. through Friday evening.

Temperatures in the upper 90s to 100 degrees, with heat index values up to 110 degrees are expected.

According to NWS, an Excessive Heat Watch indicates that a prolonged period of hot temperatures and high humidity will create a dangerous situation increasing the risk of heat-related illness.

There is a risk of heat exhaustion or other heat-related illnesses for those without air-conditioning or for anyone spending an excess of time outdoors is especially high. Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, avoid the sun, and check in on relatives and neighbors who may be at high risk for heat-related illnesses.
