Late Collapse Costs Bowie

Baysox give up five in eighth, fall to Erie, 7-5

The Baysox wasted a late lead for the second straight night as Erie rallied for a 7-5 victory Friday night.

Bowie slipped to 71-60 and four games behind Harrisburg, which won its sixth straight.

The Baysox would probably have to win all of their remaining games to have any shot at first place, but they got a break when Richmond lost again, and Bowie has a 1 1/2-game lead over the Flying Squirrels for the final playoff spot in the Western Division.

If the Baysox went 5-5 over their last 10 games, Richmond would have to go 7-3 just to catch them, so Bowie's in a good position.

Joe Mahoney's sixth-inning solo homer gave Bowie a 5-2 lead in this game, but Erie rallied for five runs in the bottom of the eighth against three Baysox pitchers to get the win.
