Bowie State Football Loses Again

Bulldogs see title hopes dashed in North Carolina.

A season of promise will end without a trip to the league title game for the second straight year for the Bowie State football team.

The Bulldogs lost, 23-12, on Saturday at Elizabeth City State in North Carolina in Division II play in the CIAA. Bowie State is 4-4 overall and 2-3 in the CIAA and was knocked out of any post-season play with the loss.

Bowie State plays Saturday at Shepherd in West Virginia in a non-league game and then ends its season at home Nov. 5 against Chowan of North Carolina.

Bowie State quarterback Tyrae Reid completed 14 of 30 passes for 139 yards and one touchdown against Elizabeth City State. He also threw one interception. Tariq Jones gained 87 yards on the ground for Bowie State.

Clifton Budd, another Bowie State quarterback, ran 11 times for 50 yards and completed three of four passes. The leading tackler for the Bulldogs was junior linebacker Bekewele Amadi, a graduate of Bladensburg High from Riverdale who had 18 tackles.

"The guys played hard … we turned the ball over and didn't capitalize on our red zone opportunities," Damon Wilson, the BSU head coach, said on the school's athletic website.  “Defensively, I think we played well enough to win a game but didn't execute when we needed to and lost to a good Elizabeth City State football team.”
