Bowie State Ends Season with Home Loss

Bulldogs fall to Chowan in football finale.

The season began with three straight wins.

And it ended with another loss. The football team at Bowie State saw its season come to an end at home Saturday with a 38-35 loss to Chowan of North Carolina.

Bowie State ended the year 4-6 overall and 3-4 in the CIAA. Chowan was 3-7 overall and 2-5 in league play.

Bowie State quarterback Andre Johnson completed 10 of 17 passes and three touchdowns and he also ran for one score. But the defense of the Bulldogs allowed Chowan to get a game-winning field goal in the closing seconds.

Delano Johnson, a standout linebacker for Bowie State, had six tackles against Chowan.

William Bailey, a Bowie High graduate, ended the season with six tackles for Bowie State. He played in nine games, with no starts.

Ramono Flowers, a running back from Largo High, played in five games this season for Bowie State and had 334 yards on the ground.

Bowie State scored 256 points this season and gave up 253.

The Bulldogs had 997 yards in penalties this season while opponents had just 692. Bowie State scored on 60 percent of its red zone chances while opponents scored 77 percent of the time.
