Bowie Grad Aids Nationally-Ranked Salisbury

Rodney Hill is a junior linebacker for a team that will play Saturday in the Division III national tournament.

The Salisbury University football team will host a Division III national playoff game Saturday against Western New England after ending regular-season play with a record of 9-1 overall.

The Sea Gulls won at home last Saturday against Frostburg State, 49-7, and graduate Rodney Hill saw action early in the game.

A junior linebacker from Bowie, Hill has played in eight of 10 games this season and has 24 tackles, which ranks among the team leaders.

But Ryan Fleetwood, the offensive coordinator and director of football operations, said Hill was injured early in the win against Frostburg State and won't play on Saturday against Western New England.

"He has turf toe," Fleetwood told Bowie Patch. He added Hill may be out for the rest of post-season play.

Salisbury relies on its offense, which scored more than 60 points three times and went over 40 seven times this season.

Bowie State hoops

The men's basketball team at Bowie State beat Shepherd, 78-75, on Saturday as senior Darren Clark of Largo High had a career-high 28 points.

Travis Hyman, from Old Mill High in Millersville, of the Bulldogs had eight blocks and Byron Westmoreland had 17 points.

Bowie High plays for state title

The Bowie High boys soccer team will face Walter Johnson of Montgomery County for the Class 4A state title on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

The Bulldogs advanced with a 4-3 win over Severna Park High in the semifinals on Saturday.
