Bowie Elite Baseball Team Holding Fall Tryouts

Tryouts for the Bowie-based regional travel baseball club begin tonight.

Tryouts begin tonight for the , a baseball club for ages 9 through 20.

According to club Commissioner Leon Buck, the Bowie Elite was started last year because a group of players, coaches and parents wanted to form a club with no geographic restrictions. Buck said many players live in Bowie, but youth from all over the metropolitan area are welcome to try out for the teams.

For the fall season, there will be five teams—one 9/10U, two 11/12U and two 13/14U teams—all playing in the Anne Arundel County league. Practices will be twice a week and once on the weekend, and each team will play one game per week on Sundays at either 1 p.m. or 3 p.m. The fall season runs from Sept. 9 through Oct. 28.

“This is really a club that doesn’t deal with a board or politics,” Buck said. “Just a group of coaches and players forming a club to play baseball free of politics and intrigue.”

Interested players are required to attend placement workouts, which serve as team tryouts. The workouts will be held at and Tuesday, Friday and Sunday. for more details on times and field numbers.

Players who make the team will be able to register for the season at the on Pointer Ridge Road from. Registration is $100 for returning players and $175 for new players, and includes a jersey, hat, socks and belt.

Kids who don’t make the team this fall need not worry—they can try out for the Bowie Elite again in the spring.
