Bowie Baysox, Special Olympics Team Up for Opening Night

The Bowie Baysox baseball club will donate a portion of their home opener ticket sales to the nonprofit organization.

Spring is in the air, and so is baseball.

Major league teams the Washington Nationals kick off their season Monday and the Baltimore Orioles take to the field for their home opener Friday.

Locally, the Bowie Baysox, the Orioles AA club team, face off against the Akron Aeros on April 11 for their home game opener at Prince George’s Stadium at 7:05 p.m.

The Baysox have teamed up with Special Olympics Maryland, who will receive a portion of ticket sales and be honored in a ceremony prior to the game.

"Special Olympics Maryland is a terrific organization and the Baysox are proud to have formed this partnership," Assistant Manager Phil Wrye said in a statement. “This event is a great opportunity for fans to give back by ordering their tickets for Opening Night early and making a donation to this organization."

Local police, including the Bowie Police Department, will also participate in a Law Enforcement Torch Run around the field at Prince George’s Stadium to raise additional funds for Special Olympics Maryland. Read more about the program here.

Ticket for opening night are available online here.  Each ticket costs $15, with $6 of every purchase going to Special Olympics Maryland. Fans can also purchase tickets from the Bowie Police Department by calling Ellen Boswell at 301-575-2015.
