Baysox Hold Surprise Military Family Reunion

Marcus Smith, Sr. was reunited with his family at last night's Baysox game after spending four months in Afghanistan.

There were few dry eyes in the house before last night’s Baysox game, and it didn’t have much to do with baseball.

Prior to last night's Baysox game, the team held a special ceremony on the field where they reunited former U.S. Marine and current military support staff member Marcus Smith Sr. with his son Marcus Smith Jr., 12, daughter Brianna Smith, 16, and wife, Robin Smith.

Marcus Sr. returned home Thursday after working as an electrician in Afghanistan supporting American troops for four months. Marcus Jr., who attended the game with his Riverdale Baptist youth baseball team, was surprised by his umpire-clad dad on the field, when he joined Baysox Manager Gary Kendall on the field before the game to exchange line-up cards with the umpires.
