Bowie Athlete May Transfer Due to Budget Cuts at University of Maryland
The future of rising national tennis star John Collins is uncertain as the university moves to eliminate teams.
With the University of Maryland moving to eliminate eight athletic teams in budget cuts, the Gazette reports that tennis player John Collins of Bowie may transfer.
Doing away with the eight athletic programs is a sad but necessary step to save the university’s athletic department, wrote University of Maryland President Wallace Loh in an to the community.
The programs slated for elimination, unless private funds can be raised to save them, are men’s tennis, men's indoor and outdoor track and cross country, men's and women's swimming and diving, women's water polo and women's acrobatics and tumbling.
