AVERY HEATING UP AGAIN, BUT NOT RUNNING AS MUCH

Baysox centerfielder , the Orioles’ second-round pick in 2008, is 8-of-24 (.333) during the last six games, raising his average to .257 after it had dropped to .249 June 2.

Avery also leads Bowie with 20 stolen bases, but has only one stolen base since May 24.

WARING HEATING UP AS WELL

As of June 2, third baseman Brandon Waring was hitting just .156 with just four home runs and 16 RBI through his first 46 games.

But during the last three games, Waring has finally started to find his stroke, going 4-of-9 during that span with three home runs and four RBI. He has also walked twice during that stretch.

The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Waring, a seventh-round pick of the Reds in 2007, has hit at least 20 home runs in each of his previous four minor league seasons. He had also batted at least .270 in each of his first three minor league seasons before hitting a career low .242 for the Baysox last year, although he did still slug 22 home runs.

DIAZ PROMOTED, KLEIN PLACED ON D.L.

Bowie closer Jose Diaz, who was leading the Eastern League with 17 saves, and had just a 1.48 ERA in 25 appearances, was promoted to Triple-A Norfolk June 8.

Reliever Dan Klein, meanwhile, was placed on the seven-day disabled list. Klein, the Orioles’ third-round pick last year, is 3-0 with a 1.08 ERA. He has 37 strikeouts and just six walks in 32.1 combined innings between Single-A Frederick and Bowie. He was promoted from Frederick in early May.
