Baysox Notebook: Bowie Manager Kendall Looking for Baysox to Do Better Job "Putting Hits Together"

The Baysox (21-22) have dropped six of their last nine games.

Following Sunday’s, , a slightly frustrated Gary Kendall stated, “We just can’t put hits together.”

Kendall, the Baysox’s manager, was forced to watch as his team—which did post seven hits against the SeaWolves—failed to string together multiple hits in any of the final eight innings while also being held without a hit in three of the last four.

Right fielder Ronnie Welty has belted a team-high seven home runs, but Bowie doesn’t have any player batting better than .268 and has 13 of its 17 players who have seen action this season hitting .239 or worse.

The Baysox had seven players, who saw action in at least 14 games, bat at least .269 last year, including center fielder Matt Angle (.383), Mahoney (.319), designated hitter Paco Figueroa (.306) and second baseman Ryan Adams (.298). Just one of those players—Mahoney, who is currently on the disabled list—is still with Bowie.

Angle is starting for Triple-A Norfolk, Figueroa is now in the Philadelphia Phillies organization and Adams—who was hitting .303 for Norfolk—was recently called up by the Orioles, and is 1-for-4 with a run scored in one game with Baltimore thus far. Designated hitter Joel Guzman, who led the Baysox in home runs (33) and runs batted in (98) last year, is currently playing for Leones Del Escogido in the Dominican Republic.

Bowie has dropped six of its last nine games, including two straight.
