Verjeana Jacobs Elected to Education Council

The Council of Urban Boards of Education (CUBE) represents more than 100 urban school districts.

Prince George’s County Board of Education Chair Verjeana Jacobs (District 5) has been elected to join the steering committee for the Council of Urban Boards of Education (CUBE).

The mission of CUBE is to “ create opportunities for urban school board leaders to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to be effective policy makers and advocates for excellence and equity in public education.”

Jacobs was honored to be selected to serve.

“As a result of this opportunity, I will be able to get a broad perspective on what other boards are doing nationwide, as well as share the success of our district,” said Jacobs in a statement.

Now in her sixth term on the county’s board of education, Jacobs will share strategies and best practice with her fellow steering committee members with the aim of helping board members across the country become more effective at shaping policy.

Interim Superintendent Alvin Crawley applauded Jacobs’ appointment to CUBE.

“This is a significant accomplishment for Mrs. Jacobs, and is a tribute to her administrative talent, perseverance, and sheer hard work,” said Crawley.

Jacobs also serves as Secretary to the Executive Board of Directors for the Maryland Association of Boards of Education (MABE).
