Tulip Grove Elementary Volunteer Honored by Maryland Comptroller

Cecilia Quinonez, a volunteer at Tulip Grove Elementary in Bowie, was awarded the inaugural Golden Apple Award for Prince George's County.

Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot honored Bowie resident Cecilia Quinonez on Friday, presenting her with the inaugural Golden Apple Award for Prince George’s County, in recognition of her volunteer activities at Tulip Grove Elementary.

Franchot is presenting one Golden Apple Award to a volunteer in each school district in Maryland. The competition, he said, was tough.

"The fact that Cecilia is getting this is a testament to her unique talent and her extraordinary skill," Franchot said.

A group of students sang Quinonez a song of thanks for her work and for the work of all of the volunteers at Tulip Grove Elementary.

"I can tell you without a doubt that Tulip Grove is the finest elementary school I've ever been in," said Franchot. "You really have something special here."
