Services, Singing and Smiles as Rockbridge Academy Salutes Veterans

Students sang, recited essays, historical speeches and more to honor local veterans during Tuesday's ceremony.

In a ceremony that featured a spontaneous standing ovation and heartfelt presentations and ceremony, Rockbridge Academy Tuesday honored American service members and sought to "inspire students to appreciate the sacrifice of our country’s veterans," according to school officials.

More than 50 people attended the event, which was held at Baldwin Memorial United Methodist Church in Millersville. Guests included two WWII veterans, two Korean War veterans, nine Vietnam veterans, 14 veterans of the Cold War, four Desert Shield/Desert Storm veterans and 12 post 9/11 veterans who served in Iraq or Afghanistan.
