UPDATE: Prince George's County Public Schools Closed for Tuesday

The mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain has created icy and slippery conditions in the county, all public schools are closed for the day.

Update - 7:30 a.m.: Prince George's County Schools are closed for Tuesday, Jan. 18. Central offices will open two hours late. See the county's school system website for more details on what personnel need to report.

5:31 a.m. - Prince George's County Schools will be open two hours late on Tuesday, Jan. 18, due to icy road conditions. There is a Winter Weather Advisory that will remain in effect until 9 a.m. this morning. The freezing rain is expected to continue with a few hundredths of an inch of additional accumulation of ice predicted.

 The precipitation is expected to end by mid-morning with the temperature predicted to reach the mid 30’s. Drivers should exercise extra caution when travelling as limited visibility and slippery roads can be expected.

 Here are a more details from the county's school system website.

  • There will be no work-study transportation available, those students should not report to school on Wednesday.
  • There will be no half-day Early Childhood Center (ECC), or half-day Special Education Programs.
  • Any other school program requiring transportation prior to noon will not have transportation, including Howard B. Owens Science Center.
  • All field trips will be cancelled.
  • Central offices will open an hour late.
  • Food services will still offer breakfast.
