PGCPS to Hold Moment of Silence for Sandy Hook Victims

Flags will also be flown at half staff on Monday.

All Prince George’s County Public Schools observed a moment of silence at 10 a.m. Monday morning to honor the victims of Friday’s mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT.

Flags also were at half staff. 

“Our hearts go out to the students, teachers, parents and families affected by this tragic incident,” Alvin Crawley, PGCPS interim superintendent, said in a statement.

PGCPS are working with the Prince George’s County Police Department to ensure student safety by increasing security at schools for the rest of the week. Staff have also received reminders regarding school safety. 

Additionally, counselors will be available for students and staff, officials said.

“Schools are safe havens for our children. As a society, we must come together to ensure that this type of callous incident does not happen again,” Crawley added.
