No Dirty Dancing: Twerking Prohibited at Annapolis High Dance

Contract forbids students dancing with "buttocks touching a partner or in the air."

Students attending Annapolis High's homecoming dance must attend under a new contract that prohibits sexually explicit dancing.

Annapolis High officials are requiring parents of students to sign the 2013-2014 student dance contract, aimed at cleaning up the dance floors.

Review the student dance contract online at Annapolis High's website.

"This year a parent signature will be required on the dance contract. This adaptation is included to help to eliminate inappropriate dancing, to increase awareness for the start and end times of the dance and to increase awareness for appropriate dress," according to an email distributed to parents.

Prohibited dance moves listed in the contract include:

  • Grinding or any other vulgar or provocative dance
  • Intimate touching of the breasts, buttocks or genitals
  • Buttocks touching a partner or in the air
  • Making out
Students must also dress appropriately. The contract prohibits clothing that show an "excessive amounts of skin." Dresses should be semi-formal, according to the document.

Students who break the contract's rules will be removed from the dance, and their parents will be contacted to pick them up.

Two years ago, the Anne Arundel Board of Education took issue with reports of grinding at school dances, and asked for a report.

Annapolis High School's homecoming is Saturday from 7-10 p.m.
