MSA Science Test Scores Rise for 5th and 8th Graders

The scores increased over a five-year period.

Prince George's County Public Schools is reporting that state assessment scores for science have increased for both 5th and 8th graders since 2008.

According to a press release from the schools, 5th grade scores rose by 6 points to 55.3 percent proficiency in 2013, while 8th grade scores increased by 18.3 points to 54.3 percent proficiency in 2013.

“We are really impressed with the progress our eighth-graders are making in science,” said Dr. Kevin M. Maxwell, CEO for PGCPS. “Teachers and principals are focused on ensuring coursework is aligned to the new Common Core State Standards, and teachers are receiving the professional development opportunities they need to be the best they can be. This is especially important as students prepare for high-tech careers and work in the STEM fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.”
