Montgomery Teen Ditches Prom to Celebrate with Boyfriend in Hospital

Kasey Rosen, a senior at Sherwood High School in Olney, skipped prom night to spend time with her boyfriend, junior Josh Popkin, who was in the hospital.

Kasey Rosen, a senior at Sherwood High School in Olney, started off prom night the traditional way: the perfect dress, makeup expertly done, and pictures with friends.

Then she detoured from her Montgomery County school’s prom destination – Baltimore’s National Aquarium – to spend Saturday night with her boyfriend, Josh Popkin, a junior.

Popkin had suffered a collapsed lung on April 25 and was admitted to Children's National Medical Center in D.C., reports WJZ TV. While Popkin told her to enjoy prom night at the aquarium without him, Rosen had other plans.

“When I told him I was going to come to the hospital in my dress he said I might actually pass out. It was cute,” Rosen told the TV station.

“It took me forever to find a dress. It was stressful. We went through a lot together to get ready for the prom. I couldn’t have imagined going without him,” Rosen said.

And she says she has no regrets about skipping prom.

“It had more meaning behind it,” she said. “It was not your typical prom. It was just more special to me.”

Popkin has since undergone surgery and is reportedly doing well.

The National Aquarium has offered the couple free tickets to the facility.
