Baker Hosts School Board Governance Forum Tuesday in Bowie

The forum on the new school board governance law was announced Monday.

Parents and community members will have the chance to learn more about the new school board governance structure at a forum at the South Bowie Library Tuesday night, hosted by Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker.

The forum was announced by Baker's staff in a press release on Monday.

, gives Baker the authority to appoint the new chief executive officer (CEO) of the school system, formerly call the superintendent.

Also under the new law, the county executive will also have the authority to appoint four members to the Board of Education, and to select the chair and vice chair of the board. Baker will choose the new members from a pool of more than 100 applicants, based on demonstrated experience in one of the following areas: education, business/finance, higher education and management.

The law goes into effect June 1.

The forum will be held from 6:30 p.m to 8:30 p.m. at the South Bowie Library. RSVPs are not required.
