“I never got support and I'm all about the kids so the political aspect is not worth making the kids choose sides. So it's the new admin [sic] choice and from day one I never felt any love,” Hayes wrote.

The one-year head coach went 5-5 in 2011.

In the email statement to the community, titled, “My closing statement as head coach at Bowie,” Hayes said he was fired.

“I was told that my insubordination of the Bowie High School rules has cost me my leadership. If I broke any rules it was only to support my players,” he wrote. “I accept my punishment and I am still a Bulldog.”

Athletic director Jessica Brandt was not available for comment Tuesday when called by Patch.

“I teach and coach because the youth is important to me. Not to play politics to climb a success ladder,” Hayes wrote in the email to Patch. “So maybe I was insubordinate because I'm for the kids. Adults do what they want on all levels it's the kids who suffer.”
