On Friday, March 18, 2011, the Howard B. Owens Science Center will host a Family Science Night featuring science activities that focus on “Science Madness!”  Admission is free and open to all.

Program schedules will be available at the door. Attend the planetarium program "Mad 4 the Ms... Mercury and the Moon!" where you will learn about the MESENGER mission to Mercury, look for Mercury in the sky and examine moon phases. The year 2011 marks the 25th anniversary of the Challenger Space Shuttle accident. Visitors may take a voyage to Mars in the Challenger Learning Center (space is limited; free tickets required) and sign our guest book. Enjoy “Finding Fossils.” Touch some live reptiles and meet a "living fossil" in our animal room. Dig for fossils and make a model fossil during scheduled times (tickets will be available at the door). Blow your mind at “Windmill Madness.” See what else there is besides kites that rely on the March winds. Participate in demonstrations and interactive experiences generating electricity using wind. These and other activities are yours for the night!

This evening presents a wonderful opportunity for photographers and video crews to record science in action.

The Science Center is a facility dedicated to the promotion of science education and enrichment. The Science Center emphasizes the constructivist/hands-on approach to science instruction for students and educators of Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS). The facility includes a Challenger Learning Center, a planetarium, a nature trail and a reptile center.
