Prince George's Schools Make Decision on Tuesday Opening

Wind chills of -12 degrees are predicted for the region Tuesday, prompting an early decision on the school delay.

Due to the impending frigid temperatures forecasted throughout the region Tuesday, Prince George's County Schools will open two hours late on Jan. 7. 

Evening activities scheduled for Jan. 6 will continue as scheduled. 

PGCPS has issued a Code Orange for Tuesday, meaning all schools and offices will open two hours late, but emergency personnel are expected to report on time. 

An arctic blast is set to hit Prince George's County and surrounding areas Monday night and into Tuesday. Temperatures will fall into single digits overnight, with wind chills as low as 12 below zero. Tuesday's high is expected to climb into the teens, with wind chills as low as 12 below zero. 

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for Prince George's County beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday. A wind chill advisory is issued when low temperatures and high winds combine to create dangerous low wind chills. Low wind chills could lead to frostbite or hypothermia.
