Bowie Volunteer Receives Community Hero Award

Stacy Kornmeyer won the award that celebrates those "who go above and beyond to help keep our community running every day."

Stacy Kornmeyer of Bowie is the winner of a Community Hero Award, sponsored by Dunkin’ Donuts, for her volunteer work at Tulip Grove Elementary.

The Dunkin’ Donuts “Thanks to You” Community Hero Award celebrates those in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area who help make their community a better place, according to a release. Winners are chosen from nominations filled out by Dunkin' Donut guests and selected on their ability to "impact, improve and inspire" the local community.

Whether it is for the students, teachers, or even the custodians, Stacy’s goal is to make the school run a little bit better for all.  Creator of the parent favorite “Handy Dandy Notebook," substitute aide extraordinaire, PTA Volunteer Coordinator, volunteer of over 300 hours working with the Kindergarten staff—Stacy is a dynamo! Stacy does whatever she can to help teachers and develop systems help their weeks run smoother.  She openly gives her time and commitment to the students, schools, and teachers to make Tulip Elementary an efficient, safe, and great learning environment.

Kornmeyer was one of 10 local heroes recognized at an awards ceremony at Rockwood Manor in Potomac on Feb. 6. She received a $250 American Express gift card and a "Coffee & Donut for a Year" coupon book.
