Bowie Students Participate in Robotics Program

Teams will show robots made of Legos at a competition at Anne Arundel Community College.

The Battle by the Bay tournament this weekend will feature Lego robots built and programmed by local students. The event will take place on Saturday at (AACC) in Arnold.

Students in the competition range in age from 9 to 16. According to a release from AACC, five of the 16 teams competing are from Bowie.

  • Just SmartBots—Ernest Just Middle School
  • Nexus Force—Grace Christian School
  • Spiritual LEGO Builders—Grace Christian School
  • Teen Dreamers—Girl Scouts of America Troop 2701
  • The LEGOBOTS—Grace Christian School

The competition is described by AACC in a release as "an opportunity for hands-on fun with science and technology while honing skills in teamwork, critical thinking and problem solving." It is a First Lego League qualifier tournament and part of a worldwide robotics program.

The opening ceremony is scheduled for 12:45 p.m. and the competition from 1:30-3:30 p.m. with awards at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Center for Applied Learning and Technology atrium at AACC.
